Statement of the Budget Request -
The FY2007 Budget does not request funding
for the Rural Emergency Medical Services
Training and Equipment Assistance Grants.
Funds were not appropriated for this activity
in FY 2006.
Program Description - FY 2005
program funding was $496,000 for the Rural
Emergency Medical Training and Equipment
Assistance Grant Program (REMSTEP). REMSTEP
assists rural and frontier communities
in improving emergency medical services.
This grant program provides funding for
innovative solutions that help address
issues such as provider licensure, continuing
education, skill retention and expanding
scopes of practice to improve emergency
medical services (EMS) in rural communities.
Performance Analysis - This program
was covered in OMB’s combined PART assessment
of HRSA’s Rural Health Activities during
the FY 2005 budget cycle. The program
received a rating of Adequate.
Rationale for the Budget Request -
The FY 2007 Budget does not request funding
for this grant program. FY 2007 support
for Hospital Preparedness grant and other
related activities will assist rural communities
with EMS-related efforts.
