Most experts agree that successful implementation of health IT is more dependent on effective change management and organizational leadership than on the technology itself. First, health IT adoption is usually an expensive endeavor that requires significant investment and commitment on the part of the entire organization. In addition, since health IT applications, such as EHRs, change the way work is done by physicians, nurses and other allied care providers, each group's concerns and needs must be addressed in planning, designing and implementing a new system to avoid dissatisfaction or outright rejection of the system.
