What is Markle Framework?
The Markle Framework is a detailed PHR framework developed by the Markle Foundation's Connecting for Health, a collaboration formed with the aim of aligning different organizations to work towards the goal of interoperable health information systems. The framework outlines a set of recommended practices for PHR privacy protection. It consists of four overviews and 14 specific technology and policy guidelines aimed at both providers and consumers. Some practices recommended by the framework include allowing users to track who is assessing their PHR, developing different measures to enforce privacy policies, and mandating that PHR providers present consumers with clear and easily accessible policy notices. Since many individuals cite privacy concerns as a key reason for their lack of interest in PHRs, it is the hope that the framework will spur the adoption of PHRs within the general public.
