How do I perform a detailed workflow analysis?

Conducting a comprehensive workflow analysis is a critical step in health IT implementation. Workflow analysis allows health centers to critically look at how work is currently being done in the organization. There are numerous formal approaches like Unified Modeling Language (UML) and tools of varying complexity available to assist in mapping current workflows.

In general, workflow analysis should be conducted prior to health IT implementation. Previously mapped workflows can then be refined during the implementation process. The resources below provide practical guidance on how to approach a detailed workflow analysis as part of a health IT implementation.
