Federally Funded HIT Competency Exam

ONC Funded Health IT Competency Exam

Competency examinations will enable health IT professionals, employers, and other stakeholder to assess their own health IT competency levels or the competency of their health IT staff members, as appropriate. The examinations may also be used by employers to identify training gaps and personnel needs integral to achieving meaningful use of electronic health information.

The test specialist Pearson Vue will hold each exam at one of its 230 nationwide test centers, locate the nearest center exit disclaimer . Individuals can make reservations to take exams with Pearson Vue either by telephone (888-944-8776) or online exit disclaimer.

Exam Vouchers for Safety Net Providers

Through an arrangement with the Office of The National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), HRSA has secured vouchers for the health information technology (IT) professional competency exams. The competency exams enable health IT professionals, employers, and other stakeholders to assess and validate health IT competency levels. The examinations may also be used by employers to identify training gaps and personnel needs integral to achieving meaningful use of electronic health information.

This voucher waives the exam fee for one time only and provides the opportunity to health IT professionals to take one of the six exams offered.  Individuals working with safety net providers and health IT professionals interested in working with safety net providers can request a voucher for taking this professional competency exam.
