Death Benefits for Life Insurance Beneficiaries

The beneficiary in the most recently executed life insurance policy may be eligible for death benefits under the SVIC Program if there is no spouse, no child, and no dependent minor.

The maximum amount of the death benefit ($262,100 for events prior to October 1, 2003; $267,494 for events between October 1, 2003 and September 30, 2004; $275,658 for events between October 1, 2004 and September 30, 2005; $283,385 for events between October 1, 2005 and September 30, 2006; and $295,194 for events between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007) is reduced by the amount of the lost employment income benefits paid by the SVIC Program to the eligible individual or to that person's estate.
