Benefits for Legal Guardian of Deceased Minor

payment estimates only. The Department of Health and Human
Services does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for
your calculated estimate.

In the event that the eligible individual was a minor who dies as a
direct result of vaccinia exposure, then the legal guardian of the
minor (e.g., grandparent) may receive a death benefit if there is no
spouse, child, minor dependent, beneficiary in a life insurance policy,
or parent.
The maximum death benefit ($262,100 for events prior to October 1, 2003,
$267,494 for events between October 1, 2003 and September 30, 2004,
$275,658 for events between October 1, 2004 and September 30, 2005,
$283,385 for events between October 1, 2005 and September 30, 2006,and
$295,194 for events between October 1, 2006 and September 30, 2007)
under the SVIC Program is reduced by the amount of lost employment income
benefit paid by the Program to the minor or that person's estate.
