Network Partners: Union Hospital & Health System, and Bedford Regional Medical Center will be operational by 3/31/04. Decatur County Memorial Hospital and Howard Community Hospital will be operational by 6/30/06. La Porte Regional Health System, Goshen Health System, and Tipton Hospital will be operation by 9/30/03.

Project Purpose: Patients and their families will be able to be treated more frequently close to home. Local physicians will have an additional resource that will improve their capabilities to treat patients and allow the local physician to care for patients rather than referring them to a distant pediatric specialty hospital. The equipment now available at Union will enhance educational programs for residents and first and second year medical students. Provides distance learning by offering professional for-credit and not-for-credit education.

Outcomes Expected: Patients and their families will be able to treated close to home more frequently. Local physicians will have an additional resource that will improve their capabilities.

Service Area: One whole county HPSA. One partial county MUA and MUP. One partial county MUA and one partial county MUP. One Critical Access Hospital.

Services Provided: Services that are planned include: physician-to-physician tele-consultations; physician and patient conferences with Riley Hospital specialist physicians; Patient to Riley Hospital subspecialty physician consultations; and subspecialty consultation during emergency, surgical, or invasive procedures.

Equipment: Polycom on videoconferencing equipment and AMD telemedicine diagnostic equipment are being purchased.

Transmission: T1 lines and PACS transmission stations will be used.
