Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs)

The Office of Health Equity (OHE) in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) strives to assist Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) with information on HRSA programs and funding opportunities, and outreach to inform them of HRSA’s efforts to promote health equity. OHE recognizes that some MSIs may not be fully aware of grant and contract opportunities from federal agencies, or the technical assistance resources available to grant applicants. OHE is working to:

  • Enhance communication to MSIs about HRSA opportunities,
  • Increase faculty, administrator, and/or staff representation from MSIs on HRSA review panels, and
  • Build an effective relationship with MSIs to ensure they know that HRSA is committed to assisting with their needs.

OHE uses existing relationships across HRSA bureau and office programs to meet these needs. The office also develops specialized technical assistance for eligible MSIs to increase knowledge about the application process and available funding opportunities.

In addition, HRSA encourages diverse representation on its grant review panels. MSIs are uniquely positioned to provide this diversity as well as subject matter expertise. Through participation in the review process, MSIs can gain a better understanding of how HRSA evaluates grant applications.

For more information, MSIs are encouraged to directly email questions, and technical assistance and information requests about HRSA programs, to OHE at MSIOHE@hrsa.gov.
