Solicitation Letter

Maternal and Child Health Bureau

Dear Colleagues,

As many of you know, this year marks the 75th Anniversary of the creation of Title V of the Social Security Act.  This landmark piece of legislation is the foundation of today’s partnerships between Federal and State governments and remains a vital component in ensuring the health of our Nation.

In honor of this historic occasion, the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau would like to acknowledge individuals, organizations and associations that have made significant contributions throughout the years in the field of Maternal and Child Health (MCH).  A special awards ceremony will be held as part of the 75th Anniversary Celebration Federal/State Partnership Meeting on October 20, 2010.

Your assistance in the nomination of these awardees is requested. The awards are designed to recognize pioneers and emerging leaders in MCH and acknowledge innovative practices, partnerships and research at the local, State and National levels that have led to improvements in MCH policy, services and practice.  Five separate awards categories will be presented at this year’s Federal/State Partnership Meeting; Director’s Award, Vince Hutchins Partnership Award, Title V Lifetime Achievement Award and Young Leadership in Maternal and Child Health and Champions in the Field of Maternal and Child Health within States and Territories.

Nominations for the Director’s Award, Vince Hutchins Partnership Award, Title V Lifetime Achievement Award and Young Leadership in Maternal and Child Health may come from anyone in or out of the MCH Program sphere. Nominations for the Champions in the Field of Maternal and Child Health within States and Territories award may only come from State MCH and State Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Directors to honor the contributions made by one exceptional person within each of the 59 Title V jurisdictions. State MCH and CSHCN Directors are invited to collaborate on the submission of one name per State. Awards will be in the form of a Certificate of Recognition for contributions that fall in one of five categories.

Please submit your nomination forms and supporting documents electronically to mch75thanniversary@hrsa.gov by September 3, 2010.  The subject line of the email should include the words “AWARD NOMINATION”.  If you have any questions regarding award nominations Dr. Keisher Highsmith at khighsmith@hrsa.gov or Jessica Jones at jjones2@hrsa.gov will be happy to assist you.

Please see the information below for details on award types, awards’ criteria and eligibility as well as the relevant nomination forms. I look forward to your nominations and attendance at the 75th Anniversary Celebration.

                                                                                       Sincerely,
