RHPTP helps small rural hospitals and rural health clinics (RHCs) in strengthening their foundation in key elements of value-based care.
Value-based care consists of key elements of quality, efficiency, patient experience and patient safety.
What is the purpose of RHPTP?
RHPTP provides technical assistance to help small rural hospitals and RHCs prepare for value-based care. This program targets hospitals and RHCs that are interested in participating in value-based programs and require support in preparing to make the transition.
We fund the National Rural Health Resource Center to provide this technical assistance.
What kind of technical assistance will rural hospitals and RHCs receive?
- Five hospitals/RHCs will receive on-site and virtual technical assistance (TA) provided by experienced consultants. This targeted TA includes a financial risk assessment, training, packages focused on quality improvement, and coaching.
- Twenty hospitals/RHCs will receive virtual learning sessions. These sessions can help them build internal capacity for future TA and participation in value-based care.
- All other eligible hospitals/RHCs will have access to online webinars, tools and resources. These resources can help them prepare for future virtual learning sessions.
Who is eligible to apply?
Eligible applicants for TA include the following:
- Small rural hospitals (49 beds or fewer)
- Certified Rural Health Clinics
Eligible hospitals must:
- Be located in a rural area or within a rural census tract of a metro area.
- Have 49 or fewer staffed beds.
- Be for-profit or not-for-profit, including faith-based organizations.
- Be located in U.S. territories. This includes tribal-operated hospitals under Titles I and V of P.L. 93-638 that meet the above criteria.
How can eligible hospitals and RHCs apply for TA under the program?
You can apply to participate in RHPTP at any time. Technical assistance services begin in the winter each year.
