American Rescue Plan (ARP) Rural Payments
In November 2021, HRSA began releasing ARP Rural payments to providers and suppliers who have served rural Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and Medicare beneficiaries from January 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020. $8.5 billion in American Rescue Plan (ARP) resources were made available to support rural communities impacted by COVID-19. Although separate from the Provider Relief Fund program, the ARP Rural application was administered via the PRF Portal.
COVID-19 High Impact Area Payments
HHS allocated funding to hospitals that had a high number of confirmed COVID-19 positive inpatient admissions as of April and June 2020.

Safety Net Hospitals Payments
HHS distributed $10 billion in Provider Relief Funds to safety net hospitals that serve our most vulnerable citizens.

Acute Care Hospitals
HHS distributed an additional $3 billion in Provider Relief Fund payments to acute care hospitals or hospitals operating on thin margins serving a large percentage of vulnerable populations.

Children’s Hospitals
HHS distributed an additional $1.1 billion in Provider Relief Fund payments to children's hospitals so they can continue to care for children and operate safely.

Rural Hospitals Payments
HHS distributed $10 billion to rural hospitals, including rural acute care general hospitals and Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), Rural Health Clinics (RHCs), and Community Health Centers located in rural areas. HHS also provided an additional $1 billion for specialty rural hospitals, urban hospitals with certain rural Medicare designations, and hospitals in small metropolitan areas.

Skilled Nursing Facilities Payments
HHS distributed a series of funding to nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities across the nation. This funding helped to combat the devastating effects of this pandemic.

The Nursing Home Quality Incentive Payment Program rewarded nursing homes that created and maintained safe environments for their residents.

Indian Health Service Payments
On May 22, 2020, HHS announced an allocation in payments from the Provider Relief Fund to the Indian Health Service and tribal hospitals, clinics, and urban health centers to support the tribal response to COVID-19.
