HRSA Information Quality Support

Information quality guidelines

HRSA follows the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Information Quality Guidelines to help ensure the quality of information that the agency shares with the public.

These guidelines were developed in response to the Information Quality Act (PDF - 1 MB) (Public Law 106-554) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) requirements. They are intended to share that information disseminated by HHS meets standards for quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity.

The guidelines apply broadly to information shared by HHS agencies, including HRSA, but do not apply to certain categories such as personal correspondence, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) responses, and independently published extramural research.

The guidelines apply to information disseminated on or after October 1, 2002, and include a process for the public to report errors and request corrections.

HRSA’s agency-specific policies and procedures are available on the HHS Information Quality Guidelines webpage.

HRSA produces a wide range of information, including program, administrative, and statistical data. HRSA’s guidelines and policies emphasize that this information should be accurate, reliable, clear, unbiased, and useful.

Quality assurance is integrated throughout all stages of information development, from creation to public dissemination. HRSA also places a strong emphasis on transparency, particularly for influential scientific and statistical information.

To support credibility and public trust, the agency encourages peer review and the use of rigorous methodological standards.
