Biography
Margaret Bush is HRSA’s Chief of Staff. In this role, she supports Administrator Tom Engels and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy in advancing the Administration’s vision of Making America Healthy Again, driving policy priorities, and ensuring operational excellence across HRSA’s programs.
Ms. Bush entered HRSA in April 2025 as Senior Advisor to the Administrator before being appointed Chief of Staff in July 2025. Her government service reflects her commitment to strengthening the nation’s health care system and making a lasting impact on public health policy.
Before entering federal service, Ms. Bush built a distinguished career in perioperative nursing and health care leadership. She worked at leading institutions including the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and the Medical University of South Carolina, specializing in complex surgical cases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served on the frontlines in New York City, caring for patients during one of the most challenging times in modern health care. At New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she spent most of her nursing career, she advanced from surgical nurse to Orthopaedic Clinical Manager, leading teams, mentoring staff, and driving initiatives that enhanced in surgical safety and communication. She also worked with DePuy Synthes (Johnson & Johnson) in sales, helping expand the orthopaedic market in ambulatory surgery centers through strategic partnerships and market development.
Ms. Bush holds an M.B.A. from Ohio University, a B.S.N. from Denver College of Nursing, and a B.A. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. She is a licensed RN in South Carolina and New York. Inspired by her seven nieces and nephews, she brings passion, vision, and a lifelong dedication to improving health outcomes, with a commitment to leaving the country a healthier place for future generations.
