John Snyder is HRSA’s Chief Data Officer, Director of the Office of Planning, Analysis and Evaluation (Acting), and Associate Administrator (Acting) of the Bureau of Health Workforce.

Dr. Snyder oversees development and implementation of an agency-wide strategy aiming to strengthen HRSA’s data assets along with leading a portfolio of data analytic projects that strategically tap into this wealth of data. Investigations aim to provide meaningful, actionable intelligence to enhance HRSA operations, optimize program oversight and impact, increase public awareness of HRSA’s investments, direct resources effectively, and detect new opportunities to address the needs of HRSA’s priority populations and communities. His commitment to using data to better serve medically vulnerable communities aligns seamlessly with BHW's mission to build a health workforce that is skilled, supported, and distributed where it is needed most. Dr. Snyder also provides agency-wide leadership for performance management, strategic planning, and innovation activities.

Dr. Snyder holds BS, MS, and MD degrees from the University of Massachusetts and an MPH from UNC Chapel Hill. He completed Internal Medicine residency training and served as Chief Medical Resident at Brown University. Dr. Snyder brings a distinguished clinical and academic background to HRSA, having served in medical and graduate medical leadership roles at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Medicine system, and through maintaining an active primary care practice. His firsthand experience in health professions training and patient care gives him a practitioner-informed perspective on the workforce challenges BHW works to address for the nation every day. As a health workforce and health services researcher, he is the author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and two books.
