OPTN System Tracking: Lung Monitor

The number of registrations can be stratified by up to two variables via the (1) Patient criteria and (2) Stratification selector dropdowns.

If a variable is selected in either of the dropdowns, the specified variable can be filtered in the corresponding (1) Refine criteria values or (2) Refine stratification fields to display a subset of the registrations. These stratifications and filters will apply to all the figures and tables in the tab.

• The bar chart shows the percentage of registrations in the prior cohort and post cohort, as stratified by the selection criteria specified above.
• The line chart shows the number of registrations per month throughout the prior cohort and post cohort, with a vertical line indicating the transition date.
• The table contains the counts and percentage of registrations in the prior cohort and post cohort; these data are available for download via the Download crosstab button.

The Registration Location, Waitlist criteria, and Criteria value fields must be selected for the dashboard to populate.

Once these selections are made, the map will populate with the colors indicating the percent change in the number of registrations in each of the designated geographic regions from the prior cohort to the post cohort.

Utilization is defined as the number of lungs that are transplanted based on all possible lungs from every deceased donor with at least one organ recovered for the purpose of transplant (assuming that all donors have two possible lungs to donate).

To display the utilization rate, the Donor Location, Utilization criteria, and Criteria value fields must be selected.

Once these selections are made, the map will populate with the colors indicating the percent change in the utilization rate in each of the designated geographic regions from the prior cohort to the post cohort.

Scrolling over the map will generate a text pop-up that includes information on the utilization rate for the donors specified in the selection criteria in the prior and post cohorts for that geographic region, as well as the number of organ donors. This information is also provided in the table below, with data available for download via the Download crosstab button.

The line graph shows the monthly lung utilization rate (based on the selection criteria specified above) throughout the prior cohort and post cohort, with a vertical line indicating the transition date.

Non-use is defined as the number of lungs that were recovered with the intent to transplant but were not transplanted.

To display the non-use rate, the Donor Location, Non-use criteria, and Criteria value fields must be selected.

Once these selections are made, the map will populate with the colors indicating the percent change in the non-use rate in each of the designated geographic regions from the prior cohort to the post cohort.

Scrolling over the map will generate a text pop-up that includes information on the non-use rate for the donors specified in the selection criteria in the prior and post cohorts for that geographic region, as well as the number of organs that were not used. This information is also provided in the table below, with data available for download via the Download crosstab button.

The bar graph displays the number of times that each non-use reason was used for lungs in the pre-policy and post-policy cohorts.

The distribution of total ischemic time is shown in hours for all transplanted lungs throughout the prior and post cohorts. Total ischemic time is defined as the amount of time between the interruption and reestablishment of blood supply (i.e., from cross clamp to transplant).

Per OPTN Policy 18.1, centers have 90 days to submit completed data. The delay in submission may result in increased missing total ischemic time data. As such, caution should be taken when interpreting data in the last 90 days.

The distribution of the final acceptor sequence number is shown for all accepted lungs throughout the prior and post cohorts. An acceptance occurs when a center responds “Yes” to a primary, electronic lung offer from an OPO.

The distribution of time from first electronic offer to clamp time is shown for all accepted lungs throughout the prior and post cohorts. First electronic offer is defined as the earliest time that the OPO submits an electronic offer to a transplant center for the donor lungs and clamp time is when the blood supply to the organ is interrupted during organ procurement.
