Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program delivers more than 1 million home visits and reaches 158,000 children and parents nationwide in FY 2025.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) this month released updated data on the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program, highlighting the highest annual number of home visits in program history, expanded reach, and strong outcomes for children and parents across the country.

“HRSA is incredibly proud that MIECHV is reaching more families and communities than ever before,” said HRSA Administrator Tom Engels. “The program is delivering critical services when families need them most—supporting healthy pregnancies, early childhood development, and family well-being in communities across America. These results show how the program helps children get a healthy start in life, connects families facing greater risks and barriers to care with preventive services and supports, and advances HRSA’s commitment to helping children and families thrive.”

The MIECHV program provides evidence-based home visiting services that build on decades of gold-standard research. Since the program was reauthorized by Congress in 2022 with increased funding, MIECHV awardees have significantly expanded the program’s reach and capacity nationwide:

  • Serving 15% more children and parents,
  • Providing 23% more annual home visits,
  • Employing 11% more home visiting staff, and
  • Serving 20% more rural counties.

This data release confirms that MIECHV home visiting works. Beyond expanding its reach, the program continues to achieve positive outcomes for children and families across measures of maternal and child health, child development, and positive parenting practices.

In fiscal year (FY) 2025, MIECHV-funded programs provided more than 1 million home visits, the highest annual total in the program’s history. The program reached 158,000 children and parents across one-third of all U.S. counties, supported by a workforce of more than 5,000 home visitors, supervisors, and other staff.

The program’s growth in rural communities is helping connect families in areas with fewer health and social service resources to critical support during pregnancy and early childhood. Home visitors play a vital role in connecting families with health services, child development supports, and other community resources that promote healthy outcomes and strengthen family stability.

The newly updated MIECHV dashboard also demonstrates ongoing improvements in child and family outcomes closely linked to evidence-based home visiting services. MIECHV families showed gains across multiple measures of maternal and child health, child development, and positive parenting practices. Compared with national benchmarks, MIECHV families participating in the program continued to perform better on several key child health indicators, including completing developmental screenings, parenting practices that support early language and literacy, timely well-child visits, and safe sleep practices.

The dashboard provides detailed information on program reach, services, workforce capacity, and performance outcomes, offering policymakers, practitioners, and the public a comprehensive view of the program’s impact nationwide.
