Setting Up Your Organization for A Successful HRSA Grant Award

Track: New Recipients/Refresher

In this session, we’ll provide information to help you administer your HRSA award. Topics include:

  • Reviewing your Notice of Award (NoA).
  • Highlighting HRSA efforts to improve equity in grants.
  • Identifying your organization's key roles and responsibilities.
  • Identifying HRSA staff who can assist you.

We will also discuss reporting requirements, financial management, and how to use the systems required to manage your HRSA award.

Understanding Your Award

Track: Advanced, but open to everyone
Time: 2:30 to 4 p.m. ET

This session is a deeper dive into specific requirements. We’ll highlight critical information in the NoA. We’ll dive into several NoAs to demonstrate specific requirements, including any restrictions or special conditions. And we’ll provide specific programmatic examples.

Budgeting Basics

Track: New Recipients/Refresher
Time: 1 to 2:30 p.m. ET

In this session, we’ll highlight factors to consider when developing and managing a grant budget. It will explore NOFO requirements and cost limitations and touch on allowable and unallowable costs and the importance of budget justifications.

Allowability of Costs and Documentation

Track: Advanced, but open to everyone
Time: 2:30 to 4 p.m. ET

In this session, we’ll discuss how to determine if a cost is allowable, provide guidance for how to document costs associated with your grants, and present examples of allowable and unallowable costs and adequate supporting documentation.

“You’re On the Panel”

Track: New Recipients/Refresher
Time: 1 to 2:30 p.m. ET

In this session, we’ll provide an overview of the Objective Review Committee (ORC) independent review process for competitive applications. We will also:

  • Provide a brief introduction of how review panel members are selected.
  • Provide an overview of the activities involved in the ORC process.
  • Discuss how the summary statements are developed.

Beyond the Basics - Budgeting and Rebudgeting

Track: Advanced, but open to everyone
Time: 2:30 to 4 p.m. ET

When plans change, effective communication is key. This session builds on basic budgeting topics to highlight personnel changes, budget adjustments, rebudgeting requirements, and carryover request. We’ll explore cost principles and provide illustrative examples to common budgeting mishaps while also demonstrating resulting consequences.

In this session, we’ll discuss the tools you should use in your organization to ensure you are in compliance with time and effort reporting. We’ll also present examples of time and effort documentation and best practices.
